“Don’t forget the two boogie things under the nose!”

It’s that time of the year when we begin to get things ready for the end of the year… and for me that means, self portraits all week long! I love working on self portraits with children because it’s always so exciting to see the amount of growth from fall to spring… and for Pre-K 4’s, they will have 4 portraits to compare!

Michael: You look in the mirror to see what you look like, what your hair looks like, what your shirt looks like, what everything on you looks like.

Logan: I did awesome… it looks like me!

Phoenix: No earrings… just ears.

Noah: Don’t forget the two boogie things under the nose. My skin looks like syrup.  This is fun!

Cole: My head is like, tan?

Darian: I’m not drawing hair because I got a haircut.

Ebbisa: I look like a young man.  I look fancy!

Alexia: I only have a dimple on one side.

Mouhammadou: I have two holes in my nose.

Quentin: I think the top of my hand is like chocolate brown, and the under is like cereal.

And here are some of our spring self portraits…!

“This is Abdoul, he’s getting fancy.”

Today, Mouhammadou made puppets of himself and his brothers at their parents wedding.  This was too sweet… how could I not share it?

ImageImage

Mouhammadou: He Mouhammadou.  He put his clothes on to go to the wedding.  I am Mouhammadou and I’m ready for the wedding.  My mommy is in the wedding dress… it’s big and white.  This is Abdoul, he’s getting fancy.  Dad is fancy and he in a suit.  Abdoulaye is in the red because he’s the tallest brother.  We didn’t go to the wedding because we were babies.  Everyone was fancy.

“Skunks are cute but I know they don’t smell cute!”

It’s been another great week in the Studio as we start winding down before starting self portraits and portfolio reflections.  At the small square table, there was the opportunity to observe, sketch and paint dried flowers.  Some friends illustrated the flowers, while other’s painted sharks, skunks and cupcake machines.

At the big table, there was clay and found materials to work with.  Children made puppets, jets and tornados that were under volcanos.

Image

Miles: I made a flower now.  A beautiful flower.  That’s the bulb underneath.

Image

Kofi: It’s a jet and it has every type of sugary food and every type of healthy food.  Those are the wings and the fire is shooting out the back.  It has a volcano in the front.  It’s blue and red but not because I like Barcelona colors because I just like red and blue.  Red buttons for the front wheels and blue lumpy bumpys for the back.  Mine is automatic so no one needs to fly it.  The automatic thing is in the front.

And then today… friends started making mustaches out of pipe cleaners.  TGIF!

Market Day!

Our Herb Market was a HUGE success yesterday! Thanks to all the families and friends that stopped by to support Pre-K! Here are some photos from our day 🙂 ImageImageImageImageImage  ImageImageImageImageImage  photo 4 copy 2 10345818_10201982731585219_7670417270328886963_n

Today in the Studio, we had clay and pipe cleaners at the big table and liquid watercolors with pens at the small table.  Friends were busy creating all sorts of sculptures with the open ended materials and it was fun to relax after our Showcase! DSCN5296 DSCN5302 DSCN5310 DSCN5297

Jude: I’ll make all the ships.  Oh dear, this is hard.  It’s a jet.

Matteo: Mine is a Star Wars sun.

Braeden: I’ll make Barcelona bracelets.  I can make one for all my buddies if they want a Barcelona bracelet.

Abdoul: I’m making boats for everyone.

Braeden: Give one to your sister, Ezekiel.  It’s big enough for you.  I’ll make one for Ms.Cushner because it’s like my job to make them.

Jude: Can you make me a Madrid bracelet?

Matteo: And I’ll make everyone a Barcelona spider.  I think all spiders in Barcelona are red and blue. DSCN5312 DSCN5316 DSCN5319

Ebbisa: I’m painting the whole class.  I just made Alexia.  Haley, there’s you.  Now Jasper and you, Ms.Cushner.  And then me!  My favorite art group.  But I’ll put Ms.Richardson and Ms.Brown, too.

Alexia: It’s a 6 legged spider.  It has 11 eyes.  Oh, one is a mouth and this is it’s tail. DSCN5321 DSCN5325 DSCN5328 DSCN5332 DSCN5324

Gabby: Neche, I’m a real artist.  It’s abstract.

Mouhammadou: A cactus.  A painting of a cactus.

Elias: It’s a house.  The roller coaster is there but when it goes underwater it’s a fish town.

Samantha: I made a lightening bolt.  I’m a genius!

AJ: That’s not how evolution works.  First, you start as something like a jellyfish and then you grow into a shark and then a monkey and then a person that can walk good. That’s what evolution is.

“They will think it’s so beautiful and they will just fall down!”

There’s just one day left until our Herbal Market and friends are getting excited to showcase all of their hard work!  Today in the Studio, children finished printing their herb greeting cards that will be sold tomorrow at the Market.

Ezekiel:  Awesome, look at mine… it’s on the card.

Braeden:  I rolled the colors and they look like Barcelona colors.

Ebbisa:  The drawing is going to stay on the paper I think.

Alexia: The roller sounds like the sound when I itch my head.

Jasper: All those people will fall down when they see our artwork.  They will think it’s so beautiful and they will just fall down!

Gabriela:  It’s harder to mix then I thought it would be.  When I roll it I can see my picture much better!  How did you get the amazing idea to do this?

We hope to see you all at the Herbal Market tomorrow, May 6, from 11:30-1:30!
